Senior Center News

The Marion Senior Center will be offering a Celebrity Chef Cooking Class as part of our Thursday Evening Boomer Night activities. The four session class will be held in the Senior Center’s kitchen from 6:00 – 7:30 pm on Thursday evenings. The class will feature a different celebrity chef each night, who will instruct class participants on how to prepare one of their personal favorite recipes. Each participant in the 90 minute interactive class will receive the recipe for, as well as enjoy tasting a sample of, the food prepared that evening.

After a summer break, The Marion Senior Center are once again expanding our hours on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to accommodate Baby Boomers and other seniors working during the day. Programs will be targeting the generation born between 1946 -1964, but anyone age 50-plus is welcome to join in the fun! We’ll have Soup, Salad & Sandwiches available for you to enjoy from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. All classes begin at 6:00 pm, unless noted otherwise.

Our next Bingo Brunch will be held on Wednesday, September 18th at 11:30 am. This month’s menu features Johnny Marzetti, Tossed Salad and Garlic Bread. Tickets will be available for $4.00 at the Transportation Desk until Friday, September 13th. We also encourage you to join us for a fun afternoon of Bingo beginning at 12:30pm.

Thursdays 9:30 a.m. – 10:00a.m.

Join Bonnie McKee from Kindred Community for some Mental Health fun! We all know how important it is to exercise our bodies to stay strong and fit, but most people forget just how important it is to exercise your mind too! Everyone is invited to join Bonnie for a donut and some orange juice while having fun trying to answer trivia questions together.
This group is free and they meet in the front room.
 

Need Grocery Shopping Done?
We can help! If you are at least 60 years old, a Marion resident, and homebound, the Center has a personal shopper that can do your shopping for you. This service is not based on income and is donation only. We cannot accept clients who are on passport. Please contact the Center for more information. Sponsored by the Marion Council on Aging
 

Golden Buckeye Card
More than two million Ohioans are eligible for the Golden Buckeye Card, honored at 20,000 businesses statewide. Golden Buckeye cardholders have saved an estimated $2 billion since 1976. All Ohioans age 60 or older, as well as adults age 18-59 who have disabilities as defined by Social Security, are eligible for a free Golden Buckeye Card.

Blood Pressure Checks
Monday, May 14th 
 10:15 a.m.  -  11:15 a.m.
A retired registered nurse will be at the Center to take your blood pressure.  This is a free service offered to all seniors!  This is a great way to monitor your blood pressure on a monthly basis, so why not take advantage of this free service!
 


Mah Jong - Every Thursday at 12:30
Looking for something new and exciting? Then we have the game for you! Mah Jong is fun and easy to learn and we are looking for new players. Experience is NOT necessary, Come join the fun!
 

Clogging and Jazz Dancers
Wednesdays - at 10:30 a.m.

Wanting to try Jazz or Clogging classes? Then there is no better time than right now! This class is free and no special shoes are required. What a great way to help you stay in shape while having fun.
 

Hearing Screening
Tuesday, April 10th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Beltone Audiology is offering the following services for free: cleaning, checking of hearing aids, and minor repairs and Otoscopic inspection of ears for wax.
