Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that city departments will be closed in observance of the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 4, 2016. 

  • Departments in City Hall will be closed on July 4.  Offices will re-open for normal business on Tuesday, July 5.
     
  • The Sanitation department will not collect trash, recycling, or yard waste on Monday, July 4.  Residents who normally have sanitation service on Monday are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.  Crews will collect refuse for both Monday and Tuesday on Tuesday, July 5, with the possibility that part of Tuesday’s collection could extend into Wednesday, July 6.
     
  • Marion Area Transit will NOT operate on Monday, July 4.  Normal hours of operation for bus service will resume on Tuesday, July 5.
     
  • Marion Senior Center will be closed on Monday, July 4.  All programs, activities, and transportation will resume on Tuesday, July 5.

Necessary services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

The City of Marion will be performing smoke testing on the sanitary sewers from the intersection of Columbia Street at State Street to the Intersection of Brightwood Drive at Mt. Vernon Avenue, between Church Street, Walnut Street and Presidential Drive.  This testing will occur on Wednesday, May 18 and Thursday May 19 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

The City of Marion will sponsor a Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 14, 2016 that is free for city residents.

Any City of Marion resident, currently on City Sanitation Service, wishing to dispose of unwanted items may do so by taking those items directly to the Marion County Solid Waste Transfer Station located at 1564 Victory Road, (directly east of the Marion Correctional Institute).  Proof of current city sanitation service will be required.

Hours of operation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

          Please note:  Yard Waste, Appliances, Tires, Regular Garbage, or Hazardous Materials will NOT be accepted.
