The City requests proposals from qualified licensed brokers to provide consulting and insurance brokerage services for the City's current and future employee benefits, including group medical (includes prescription coverage), dental, vision, life, accidental death and dismemberment, voluntary life, and an employee assistance program (EAP). The City seeks a consultant and broker that is well versed in the benefits market, experienced in advising comparable public agencies and works well with various levels of staff and management.

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that on Tuesday, September 8th at 6:00 pm detours will begin being posted on the following streets in the downtown Marion area to accommodate activities for the 2015 Marion Popcorn Festival:

  • Center St. between State St. and Campbell St.
  • Church St. between Prospect St. and Main St
  • Main St. between Church St. and Huber St.
  • Prospect St. between Church St. and George St.
  • Oak St. between Center St. and Huber St.

These downtown streets will remain closed until the festival’s conclusion at midnight on Saturday, September 12th and may remain closed into the early hours of Sunday morning for festival clean-up.  

In preparation for and during the Popcorn Parade, closure of a number of area streets will begin at 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 10th.  The following is a list of these street changes and closures:

  • Kensington St. will become two-way at 4:00 pm.
  • East Center St. between Kensington St. and State St. will close at 5:00 pm.
  • Forest Lawn Blvd. from Center St. to Mt. Vernon Ave. will close at 5:00 pm.
     
  • The following streets will be closed between East Center St. and East Church St.:
- Pennsylvania Ave. - Merchant Ave. - Homer St.
- Kenmore Ave. - Clover Ave.  
  • The following streets will be closed between East Center St. and Wilson Ave.:
- Chicago Ave. - Boone Ave. - Franconia Ave.
- Johnson St. - True Ave.  
  • The following streets will be closed until the conclusion of the parade:

       - State St. between Center St. and Washington St.
       - Main St. between Church St. and Hill St.
       - Delaware Ave. between Hill St. and Washington St.
       - Hill St. between Main St. and State St.

As a result of the various street closures taking place in preparation of the Popcorn Festival Parade, on Thursday, September 10th, Marion Area Transit will be making final pick-ups at 2:00 pm, with final drop offs scheduled for 2:30 pm. Normal operating hours will resume on Friday, September 11th.

  • All offices in City Hall will be closed.
  • Sanitation crews will not work on Monday, September 7th.  Residents that normally have  Monday  sanitation  service  are  asked  to  have  their  collections  at  curbside  by 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8th.  Sanitation crews will collect both Monday and Tuesday’s refuse on Tuesday, with the possibility that some of Tuesday’s collection could extend into Wednesday.
  • Marion Area Transit buses will not operate on Monday, September 7th.  Normal bus routes will resume on Tuesday, September 8th.
  • Marion Senior Center will be closed on Monday, September 7th.

Necessary services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

According to Parks Superintendent, Mike Cheney, weather permitting, mosquito fogging operations for the City of Marion, which is handled by the Marion City Parks Department, will begin during the week of June 29.  Fogging operations will occur on Thursday or Friday mornings, typically between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 a.m.  The areas that will be sprayed will rotate based upon mosquito populations, with fogging operations continuing as needed throughout the summer and as weather permits.

City residents with respiratory conditions are advised to keep their windows and doors closed during the above listed hours.

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that in observance of the Independence Day holiday, City Departments will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2015.

Please Note:  Due to closures on Friday, City Hall’s weekly early closure day will be observed on Thursday, July 2, 2015.  Therefore, on July 2, most offices in City Hall will close at 3:00 pm.  Municipal Court Offices will close at 2:00 pm and the Utility Billing Office will close at 4:00 pm.
