Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that City Departments will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2018 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

  • Departments in City Hall will be closed on May 28, 2018.  Offices will re-open for normal business on Tuesday, May 29.
  • The Sanitation department will not collect trash, recycling, or yard waste on Monday, May 28.  Residents who normally have sanitation service on Monday are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29.  Crews will be collecting refuse for both Monday and Tuesday throughout the day on Tuesday, May 29, with the possibility that part of Tuesday’s collection could extend into Wednesday, May 30.
  • Marion Area Transit will NOT operate on Monday, May 28.  Normal hours of operation for bus service will resume on Tuesday, May 29.
  • Marion Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 28.  All programs, activities, and transportation will resume on Tuesday, May 29.

Necessary services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

The sale will take place in the lobby of Marion City Hall.  Pursuant to the adopted Disposition Guidelines those properties shall not sell for less than the fair market value which is defined in said Guidelines as 67% of the Marion County Auditor's true value for the lot value.  Second sales will be at a determined fair market value by competitive bid. No sale will be made to a transferee that has a property which is tax delinquent in Marion County, Ohio or any other Guidline prohibition as is contained within the Residential Land Transfer Policies. (Guidelines 7/21/09) 

The Marion Land Bank was created by an act of City Council in 2008 in order to address the non-productive lands and work to putting these nuisance properties back to productive use for the benefit of Marion’s neighborhoods.

The successful offer will be required to execute the Land Bank Offer to Purchase Agreement on the date of the sale and will be required to pay the successful bid amount in the form of an escrow payment on the same date to the City of Marion, Ohio.  The information contained above and related hereto is believed to be true, but is not a warranty of its accuracy.  Participants are urged to complete their own due diligence and are advised neither the City of Marion, Ohio or its agents make any assurance whatsoever and buyer assumes full and absolute risk associated with the transaction.

Any interested party in those listed above marked as available for "sealed bids" shall place in a sealed envelope the sum they are willing to purchase the aforementioned lot for and deliver said envelope to the Office of the Safety Director, located on the 3rd floor of Marion City Hall.  The envelope must be sealed and contain on the outside in clear, legible text the property for which the bid is made and must be submitted to the Safety Director before 10:30 a.m., May 22, 2018.  The enclosed writing shall contain the amount of the bid, the submitter's printed name, address and contact telephone number.  The highest bidder will be required to execute the City's purchase contract within 5 days of the receipt of the first received bid.

Subsequent to the Sale on May 22, 2018 any parcel listed under the Sealed Bid list above shall remain open to any person for tendering a sealed bid at anytime subsequent to the May 22, 2018 sale.  Meaning, after May 22, 2018 any property listed that has not sold and is listed under Sealed Bid list above shall be available to the first person to submit a qualifying sealed bid, without the need to wait until the next sale date.

Updates: 

The City of Marion’s website at www.marionohio.us, which is for informational purposes only, was repaired by Neighborhood Image on May 8, 2018 after a security issue was discovered.  The city’s informational website, which is hosted and housed separately from its’ financial servers, was among approximately 350 websites recently affected by code that allowed hackers to exploit visitors’ computers to make digital money.   The repair by Neighborhood Image occurred within a couple of  days of the security breach of the informational site. 

Users that accessed the website (www.marionohio.us) between May 7 and May 9 can run a full virus scan, which should alert the user to any possible issue.  If running your antivirus software did not work, this website - https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-coinhive-miner-virus/ - has an overview of the malware as well as detailed instructions on detecting and removing it from your computer.
